LECTURE—A Colorful Journey: exploring the
nuances of color and design in shibori culture and wearable art

Amy Nguyen is a CRAFTBOSTON fiber wearable artist who will talk about the importance of this color evolution, the meaning of colors once used on age-old kimonos and how color inspires her surface design. The love of color has led Nguyen on a journey from sewing to painting and currently to wearable art. The art of shibori--a centuries old form of resist dyework--has evolved in many cultures with the availability of modern dyes and materials.

One Artist’s Story **

Nirit Dekel, a CRAFTBOSTON jewelry artist, left her career in Israel’s booming high tech industry, after viewing the Chihuly exhibit at the Tower of David Museum in Jerusalem in 2000, and returned to her passion of making art. Her contemporary glass beads are made using traditional lampworking techniques. Her unique pieces are bright, colorful and full of humor. |

LECTURE—From South Africa to Israel: An Exploration in Clay **

Marcelle Klein is a CRAFTBOSTON ceramic artist. Her abstract ceramic sculptures draw inspiration from her childhood in South Africa, as well as her surrounding natural environment in Israel. Some of the reoccurring themes in her art are negative space, balance, juxtaposition of opposites, and the relationship between art and nature. As an active member in Israel’s ceramic community Marcelle will comment not only on her own work, but will provide a glimpse into Israel’s vibrant ceramic community.

LECTURE–On the Line: The Making of the Fuller Craft Museum Installation

Francine Ozereko, a CRAFTBOSTON ceramic artist, and her husband Frank Ozereko will lecture on their collaborative ceramic installation at the Fuller Craft Museum. They will show examples of their work separately and all of the steps in planning, building, firing and installing their combined100 foot long piece comprised of three walls in the museum.

LECTURE–The Craft of Making Things with Meaning

Laura Baring-Gould, CRAFTBOSTON metal artist, will present the evolution of her work in ephemeral museum installations, large scaled public sculptures, and objects of cast bronze to create wonder in the palm of a hand or meaning in the center of a city square. Her presentation will cover techniques of bronze casting and the craft involved in this ancient process of transforming metal into forms of individual and collective value.
